Our Chef and the Food Porn Awards...

When we say we’re all about food, we mean it. Searching out new few trends, trialling new recipes, keeping our eyes on the latest restaurant openings and naturally, what’s new on our supermarkets shelves is how we keep abreast. It’s a tough gig.

With our stomping ground being the North West, we like to know what’s going on across the region, and with a new award being created for the NW by refresh PR agency and one of our favourite photography agencies, Shoot the Moon, I was asked to sit on the panel of judges and be a part of finding the best food in the North West.

The Food Porn Awards are aiming to find the best looking food from restaurants, pubs, bars and eateries across the region. Food photography, both amateur and professional has exploded in recent years, with social media platforms like Instagram and its many filters making great food look more mouth-watering than ever! So, we’ve asked chefs in the North West to enter images of their most mouth-watering dishes via the award’s website to be in with a chance of securing a coveted award for themselves and their establishment.

Online entry were opened on Monday 19th October and closed on Monday 7th December and there were four categories to enter into:

  • Fine dining
  • Casual dining
  • Alternative eats
  • Boutique pubs

With all entries now received, myself and the other judges – including Helen Ramsbottom from Bitten Magazine and Oliver Zebedee-Howard from Shoot the Moon - have chosen the 12 finalists, with each to be invited to come along to an Ancoats photography studio in February to cook off against each other and have their dishes professionally shot.

The winners will be announced in an exhibition in March, so keep your eyes peeled on Twitter for updates and the final winners’ details.
