In late November this year, Nando’s crisps were nominated by independent and symbol retailers across the UK for the ‘Best Snack Brand of the Year’ in the Asian Trader Awards 2014. Jenny, our Wholesale National Account Manager, and Clair, our Convenience National Account Manager, both attended the awards dinner to see whether the office’s favourite snack product would see its moment in the sun.

A little bit of background… The Asian Trader Awards are a key event in the convenience channel, and is attended by some of the industry elites. This year’s guest speakers included Rt Hon George Osborne MP and Dr. Virander Paul, Deputy High Commissioner, High Commission of India, who both gave inspiring speeches of the work, entrepreneurship and growth of Asian retailers in today’s tough economic climate.

The event recognises key retailers and suppliers across the channel and celebrates success with a number of industry awards, covering everything from trader of the year to the most innovative convenience business

Nominated for best snack brand of the year - due to strong growth across the sector driven by the trusted Nando’s brand, promotional campaigns, consumer sampling activity and growing retailer listings and distribution - we were among illustrious company. The other nominated brands products including Pot Noodle and Burtons Fish and Chips, but unfortunately, we saw ourselves pipped to the post by new to market Walkers Pops product.

We’ll be aiming for top spot next year, however, so watch this space…
